Outlook Express problem

Was Firefox set to be your default browser and OE fired up all its links in Firefox? In IE go to tools menu > internet options > programs tab and then in the bottom left corner tick the box to make IE check to see if it is the default browser. Once done this close IE and reopen IE to see if prompts to make it the default browser. Then try your links in OE again and they should find IE as the default browser and open.
Being at work I can't test the problem (no OE for starters) so the above is just a suggestion and not a guaranteed answer!

In fact look here ---> http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/.../oetopten.mspx and at entry number 5 Its the file associations that I had been trying to think of as it can happen in Outlook as well.
