Question Best Cooler for 64 X2 4200+ 939 CPU?

Is there any major benefit to a non-stock cooler for these chips - other than lower noise levels?

I would like the machine to be as quiet as possible - but not at huge expense - need abalance between low noise levels and price I believe the stock fan and heatsink do a pretty good job on these...

Anyone have any experience with Zalman or Arctic Freezer type coolers?

Cheers

Mick

I have a Zalman CNPS9500 LED on my X2 4200 at home and its really good. Very quiet with great cooling - also the design is such that it blows air from the chip straight to the 120mm exhaust fan. The chip is running at 4800 speeds and rarely gets over mid-30s even on full load. They are a bit fiddly to fit because you have to take off the plastic retention frame from the motherboard, and the heatsink itself is quite hefty which worried me at first but I've had no problems with it.
My machine at work is also an X2 4200 at stock speeds and I just used the supplied HSF which is perfectly adequate.
If you intend to overclock, then go with the Zalman, but if not just stick with the HSF that came with the chip.

Err... 'Cool' I suppose is the correct expression of astonishment for that SERIOUS looking piece of kit

Is that why you chose your username?

Is it to fit your car, motorbike or CPU

Just looking at the review posted above - some of things weigh nearly a kilogram

I too have one of these but if I was after low noise and moderate overclocking then I would just get the arctic cooler which is great value for money.

Water cooling is now cheap and highly effective - Take the plunge and go for a water cooling kit
