Default why sysprep?

can anyone explain in plain english why i need to sysprep a PC before cloning it? i thought if the hostname is different, it is enough to make the PC unique (for SID, etc).

totally swipes the identity, if you run active directory it can confuse it with similar SSID's, doing lab machines in uni I usually forget then have to run "New SSID" after on all the machines

for things like user accounts, comp names etc. changing the name does not alter the SSID, the SSID will stay the same
