Default How to get remote assistance to work - modem/router config?

Need to help bro with his PC so tried to use Win XP remote assistance which I do successfully for other people.

However, he can send the invite and I accept but then get the message that I can't connect to his computer. password etc. all set up ok.

Disabled firewall, still didn't work.

I'm thinking it's the router config. I need to enable (if not already so) the upnp? Problem is I can't get into the router config. Tried 192.168.1.1 but nothing. Bro's router is a BT Voyager 105 usb.

Is there any other settings I need to check to enable remote assistance? Tried lots of googling but no joy.

Any ideas?

YOu both need exactly the same version of windows messenger or msn
you both need exactly the same version of windows and when I say exact I mean exact, if he has 1 more service pack than you, it will not work!

It took me and my mate who lives 10miles from me 1 week to figure it all out!

I can't connect to him anymore as im on xp64!

If you have UPnP (Universal Plug N Play) enabled/supported on both routers it should work

usb adsl modem routers like that don't generally support UPnP so I suspect that's yer problem

I think unless someone can confirm that it does, you might need to invest in a router that supports it.

It's not a bad idea anyway, if you don't want wireless, cheap wireless routers can be had now for <£25 with all these facilities as people upgrade to wireless 54G, VPN, VOIP and the like
