flight sim 2004 ??
Been years since I last had a shot off a pc operated flight simulator, been thinking off getting hold off flight sim 2004,just wonder if anyone knows off hand what spec off pc I would require to operate this software ?? as I do belive they do need a good spec off pc to run.
also just how realistic are these sims scenery, airports etc ?? most importantly how hard are they do fly without landing early ??!!!
cheers

For FS 2004 fast CPU is more important than GFX card, a good dose of memory helps too. FS X will be out before Christmas and that will change the focus back to GFX as it will be a DX9/10 offering.
There is some very good scenery and addons out there, if you fly VFR then the photo scenery from Horizon software is a must. You can then go to vfr-addons and get some freeware addons.
Flying wise I've never stuggled to land the Cessna 172 but some of the bigger planes require more thought as the runways effectively get a lot shorter

Yup, Edinburgh is in there. Standard scenery is pants (unless you go to a US city). Not sure what downloads are available for the UK.
Try flying a Cessna from Las Vegas Int'l and heading down the strip, that's pretty detailed.
Yes, a joystick is a must for take off and landing but I also fly a lot on autopilot which only needs a mouse.

All the files come with explicit instructions about where to put them within the directory structure of fs2004 - it's all very easy.
Just remember to back up the files you're gonna overwrite first if you're looking at changing some of the effect files, ie clouds, scenery, water, airport/buildings, ground etc, as if you don't like the effect you'll not be able to get them back easily.
Depending on what you want, basically anything is up for being changed via these downloads, there is a very healthy culture of mod'ing for better effects - you can even get complete re-maps of areas which actually ensure the contours of the land match up to reality - fs2004 does a pretty poor job in that area for some places, i believe FS X will however be much better in that regard, hence the need for a good graphics card if you wanna see the eye candy
Hope that helps

Have a look here, http://www.ukar.co.uk/cgi-bin/ukarbo...gi?;act=SF;f=3 for lots of military type stuff
I put a Tornado GR4 on mine, no idea how fly (anything) but it's kinda fun! I set off from Leeds Bradford to fly over my house, 5 mins away and finished up flying under the Forth bridge

Ive played around on these flight sims, mainly doing the vegas strip in a helicopter (been in one in real life too down the strip)
Ive never done a 'real ' flight tho, say New York to London, when you do them, they arent real time are they, ie you have to fly the plane for 8 hours ?

Oh, and if you fly for a virtual airline I don't think they let you speed it up.
