Multiply your average download speed by 8.

E.G. I download p0rn at 125kbps. Put a . inbetween the first and second digit and multiply! Gives me a speed of 10, add the . again = 1.0meg

Basically there's 8 bits in a byte.

You have files that are in megaBYTES.
You have a boadband connection that is measured in megaBITS.

Many people are unaware of this. I think speeds should have been (too late now) quoted in bytes, not bits. However, marketing depts at ISPs would have something to say about that

I've just been up-graded to 8meg FOC if my line can handle it and they reckon I should see the difference within a few days.

I will just keep an eye on it..

do you use a router or usb modem? If you use a usb modem it can cause you problems getting the full speed your line can handle (disconnecting when computer is off etc)
