had a power cut
works cctv pc went down, rebooted, mouse pointer has well AWOL 
after a few hours of off and on trying in between serving customers i managed to "find" the mouse pointer section in control panel (mouse still works, you just have to guess where the thing is, very frustrating
if i reboot into safe mode the pointer is there
anyway, i tried switching on "pointer trails" and the pointer reappeared, but as soon as i switch this off its gone again, tried using different pointer graphics but the fault is still there
currently using "trails" on minimum setting so i can see what i am doing
any ideas?
i did manage to do a sketchy google search early on without the mouse pointer and could not find much
