anyone else having this? After a few seconds the pc's fan also cuts in. Only way out is a CTRL ALT DEL or power off.

The steam support page suggests updating sound drivers (done) and wiping out spyware/adware (done) but still the same issue.

PC is plenty fast enough (p4/3.4/1GB mem) with Feforce FX5700 card

Any ideas before I mail Steam?

have u got integrated audio, because I have a similar problem with stuttering sound.

Mines the same - sometimes plays for ages without it happening other times its real quick.

I'm running P4 2.6@2.9, 1GB Mem and 6600GT graphics. Latest drivers for the gfx card and dx, Creative haven't done any new drivers for the SB Live! Player 5.1 in ages so they are as up to date as they'll be!

I have the same problem. It appears to be a common problem so I assume a fix will be out some point soon. Some have said turning off HDR helps. This seems to help sometimes for me but not always.

I've parked the game until a fix is released.
