I think it's actually the proxy caches that go down. I suspect that the sites are split across them by dns name, which is why some work and others don't.

ntl's dns server seems particuarly flakey...

try flicking the cable box off and then on again if you haven't already

ntl have gotten much better lately - used to terrible when they were growing quickly... still never enjoy having anything to do with their customer services department. Was on the phone for half hour at work this week just trying to the service cancelled.

im only on 1mb broadband i think at £17.99 month but they refund £5 of the £25 bill
for some reason they wanted sep direct debit for broadband at full £17.99 then they credit tel phone account with £5
so basicly internet £13 month

Mine's been playing up today, no e-Bay, no Google, but this site works fine, as DID Hotmail, but now THAT's gone too!

If it's the same tomorrow I'll ring up and threaten to cancel, I have phone, broadband AND TV from them! Let's see what they'll knock off that little lot!

Ian_S is right: it appears to be the DNS servers. I've changed mine to point at the servers provided by my hosting provider, and now it's a lot better.

taken from overclockers

Use the following DNS servers:

212.159.11.150
212.159.13.150

should run better

I had similar problems as well, and i'm with Virgin, most likely not only NTL issue.

There's some sort of takeover going on between these two though isnt there? Maybe the internet side of it is shared, causing problems for both sets of customers?
