Question Unrecognised DVD drive

I've added a new DVD drive to my PC, but it isn't being recognised.

The other DVD drive is the master and connected to no 1 on the cable. I've tried the new one as Slave & cable select, but neither works.

The setup screen (bios) recognises both drives on the IDE channels, but windows just isn't seeing the new drive.

Any ideas ?

I'd unplug the first drive and set the new one to master and then see what happens.

Thanks - tried that - it seems that they work the other way round - the new one as master & the old as slave - weird.....

To be honest you should always make the newer faster drive the master anyway...

Nice little article here: http://sony.storagesupport.com/cdrw/...20Guide_oz.PDF

The older device may need a firmware upgrade to allow for the Master and Slave devices to work together. What make and model is you're old drive?

They're both Sony's

I think the older one is actually faster, it's only a few months old - it's a reader & the newer ones a writer.

As it works like it is, I think I'll just leave it until I'm bored one evening....

Thanks all
