ok i dunno much about comps so this might not be easy

the pc in the house is playing up, it keeps switching its self off, if i try and do antivirus?anti spy check it switches off, if i try and update the anti spy/virus software it switches off, and at random times opening files/progames etc

can anyone help please, or maybe point me in some sort of direction

Does sound like you have a virus.
What operating system is it xp ? 2000 ?
Have you installed all windows updates ?

Start in safe mode and try and run your virus checker..then attempt to boot normally and run your anti-spyware

could be just that you have an overheating processor.
If you take off the covers, is everything covered in dust ?
give it a hoover out if so.

Try another power supply unit also just incase yours is faulty
