Default Mcafee - give me strength

Ok, we use VirusScan 8.0 (unfortunately) and have setup the autoupdate repository to look at a UNC path on the server. I've disabled the NAI update options and enabled the one to update from the server. (Downloaded the DAT and placed it in the folder).

When I run the update I get the message about checking for a valid repository, then get the following error:

"Error occured while downloading file Sitestat.xml"

Any ideas.

I've spoken to their support, but this hasn't improved since I last dealt with them several years ago.

Cheers

Mark

Been a long time since I used McAfee.

I remember using its own updater program and telling it to download it to a directory as well as updating itself. It downloaded the dat's as well as a delta.ini file or something.

If you download the file yourself, you need a few more to make it work I believe.

HHxx is correct. I'll ask at work tomorrow for the location on the files you'll need. How many machines are you managing? And what was your support number?

Mark - the way I do it is to use EPO Server to download from the McAfee source repositories and configure the EPO Agent to use the local repository (which is in effect what you are trying to achieve)

It sounds like you are just downloading the latest dat file and hoping it'll update from that - it won't unfortunately

Are you using EPO Server to do this?

Mcafee is good

Delete all the files in the repository and re download them, I have had this when one machine has locked the file open or similar.

If you download the dat on its own, an autoupdate will not work..

you need to mirror the contents of

ftp://ftp.nai.com/commonupdater

Cheers guys,

I've only been at this new company a month or so and chucked Mcafee out after such rubbish support many moons ago. Though we're only running 10 pc's, it makes it no less frustrating.

I'll have a play over the next few days based on the info you've provided.

Thanks,

Mark

I agree, but I'm a bit biased

Nothing works for everyone I suppose.
