Converting a DVD file to a hostable file

I have about 10 mins of dvd, that i would like to convert to a hostable file.
I have no idea what im doing, and would like a quick idiots guide please.
I have it saved to hardrive and also on DVD, if that helps.

Here's what I do:
1/ If you can, use something like windows xp's own movie maker, or purchase a dvd authoring package.
2/ Load the film into it, edit it at your leisure.
3/ When making the movie, think about where your going to host it, what size it needs to be for quality, and who is going to be downloading it.
4/ Render it.
5/ Check it works, and it's true file size.
6/ Put it on the web.
I use Pinnacle Studio v9, which is very good and all I need at this time. My films can be rendered as just about everything, from dvd quality to crappy mpeg files you can hardly see
Try movie maker first though, that might do the trick for a small project
