Default Downloading vids/ Windows media player problems!!!

I'm having problems with my video and mpeg players on the PC and wondered if anyone here had any ideas?

Basically anything i watch on any player (Windows media, Realplayer, Apple players etc) looks like the brightness is turned right up making it a real pain to see anything!!!!

Any ideas whats up, my PC screen is fine and changing the brightness on the moniter does nothing to help!!!

Okay. It sounds like either your CODECS or the Video Card Driver. Have you changed anything recently? Downloaded/installed any new programs etc....

Not changed anything i can think of, always downloading new stuff onto PC. Just had new card put in about 6 months ago, could be the drivers? I'll head over to their support and look for new updates!!

What the hell are CODECS and can i get medicine to sort them!!!

CODECS are the things that translate your video files so that they can play on your PC. Try a search under the 'Computer' forum. I think the Kazaa CODEC pack ones are what people use.

Go in Control Panel and see if you have something called AC3...............if so you have a codec installed and you can fix video playback settings from there.

Also check to see if your video driver has controls for the "overlay". This is the bit of the screen used by video playback, DVDs, TV tuners tec. This usually has independent brightness, contrast etc. controls than your normal Windows desktop.

Cheers
