Default another dunce IT Q - internet explorer

Ok... Dell lap top is purchased and on its way, hopefully in time for the nice man from telewest to install my broadband next Tuesday.

BUT

Got an email from telewest telling me that my pc must have outlook express (as minimum) and internet explorer.

Im getting Office 2003 from an alternative location and I dont think it will arrive in time for the broadband man (ok it could be a woman i s'pose). The laptop comes with Works, could this include Outlook Express (Im doubtful) and will Internet Explorer be installed anyway?

Outlook Express comes free bundled with Windows, so as long as you are getting some version of Microsoft Windows as your Operating System (which I assume you are) then you will be OK. You'll also have Internet Explorer with it.

You only need outlook for sending/receiving emails (unless of course you use online email services, such as hotmail where you dont need anything), this is not a requirement for broadband, eitherway as stated above, they are both free with windows.

Of course. Standard charge is £85+VAT for the first hour, then £75 + VAT per hour after. However, as it's a weekend there's a surcharge on top of that

I'll probably be in town doing some shopping so you best take Chris up on his cheap offer

You really shouldn't have a problem if someone is setting it up for you

If I get chance, I'll pop on for a nosey to see if you've posted your first broadband post

Hurrah! Don't think internet is poorly though.....

Wait until you get your broadband....it'll be a little faster I'd imagine (assuming you are on dial-up)

Could be some problems at your ISP's end, so don't count that out.

You could always try the speedtest available here: http://reviews.cnet.com/7004-7254_7-0.html

That should be a simple task for somebody who can operate a washing machine and an iron.
