Default Stupid question - Raid Array

I've never dabbled with RAID before but I'm considering setting up a fileserver with one.

If I use RAID 1, will I get the full capacity of the Disk?

ie If I use 2 x 250gb Drives, I get 250gb of data, mirrored

Cheers,

J

I use 2 x 160gb in RAID 1 at home. So if 1 drive fails the other should still work. Then you can replace the faulty drive and then mirror the data onto the new drive. Of course if you get virus or similar on your PC it will be on both drives. In MY COMPUTER it shows only as a single drive.

Andy.

jowl, is it for home or office use ?

For home use you might as well just backup to a cd or dvd.
If the hard disk dies, you simply replace it and reload the operating system. Then copy the data back over.
