Inkjet printer reqd. - cheapest running costs, who?
Needing a new Inkjet printer, who makes the most economical printer to run, everyone seems to use different size and cartridge types (some all colour in one cartridge). Home/Small office use, occassional photo but nowt to fancy - up to £150.
Any suggestions welcome.

Epson Photo R220 is a good printer.
Based on the R200 but with all the little problems (sticking tray etc) ironed out.
Printer RRP around £65
It takes 6 individual ink cartridges, totalling about 110ml of ink.
The going rate for a compatible cart is about £1
Another one to consider is the Epson D68
This one runs on 4 carts (no photo colurs) and again compatibles are available around the £1 mark.
I've heard good reports on the Canon ip4000 series. Lots of our customers switched to Canon after finding faults with their R200 & R300's.
Canon compatibles are as cheap as the Epson ones, sometimes cheaper, but i'm not sure if there is a compatible available for this printer yet. If there's not, there will be soon.
Best to just completely avoid HP, Lexmark, Brother and Dell as the replacement ink is extortionate.

I'm going to be controversial and say dont buy an epson, buy a HP.
Why? Well.....
I used to say Epson all the time but they eat ink cartridges, I know this as my customers buy them from me. However, I've bought HP's and installed them for myself and for others and mine gets hammered and has only used one set of cartridges in 14 months!
Plus I was forever cleaning the heads on my Epson, never done it once on any HP.
Cartridge world do good replacements and I buy all my stuff from Inkraider.co.uk who are cheap as well.

Canon IP by a mile. The 8500 is the best buy at the high end with eight cartridges a go. These are only 88p each for compatibles and I have yet to have any blockages or do one headclean in 8 months.
I wish I could say the same for the range of epsons i've had in the past.
Plus nearly every IP has dual paper trays, CD/DVD printing, and duplex as well.

Which compatible cartridges are you using?
The first time I used cheap ink in my Canon i965, the jets blocked within a week.....I always use Canon originals now, at £5.50 per colour, but at least no more blocked heads!
Canon are the cheapest to run, according to "Which" magazine.

As much as I rate the EPsons picture quality they are very high maintenance and if used infrequently the blocking print heads are a nightmare. I';ve had to chuck out two Epsons in two years becasuse of this and the constant cleaning uses loads of ink.
I'm personally going to look at the Canon range for my next purchase.

Thanks chaps, starting to narrow it down now, got the external fax working again so looking for purely an inkjet printer now, the Canon PIXMA iP4200 is looking favourable at the moment.
