Unhappy Problems with wireless, help please.

Hi guys.

I bought and installed a Belkin pre n router a few days ago. I've had major problems ever since. One of three things happens

1) The laptop senses the wireless connection and connects to it

2) The laptop senses my wireless but can't connect to it

3) The laptop can't even sense it

These things happen when I'm in the same room in the house.

What the hell is going on???

My BT Router must work, because when I connect my laptop to the Belkin and the Belkin to my BT router it works fine everytime( ie connect with wires)

Deep

Could be interference from a cordless phone, try a different channel on your wireless router, try a 6 or 7 channel.

Also try and run it without any security to see if things run ok just to prove a point.

My connection runs much better/further without security, I just make sure only the correct MAC address connects to my system.

Hi Shane,

Yes there is a cordless phone in the room. I'll get rid of it and try.

When you say a different channel on the wireless router what do you mean? There are 4 outputs on the back of the wireless router that are labelled 'connections to computer' Are you talking about these?

I don't think I have any security on it at the moment!! I've just plugged it in and have not configured any additional security.

Thanks

Deep

Hi Deep,

Long time no chat.

Anyway where Gooner is refering to channels you will find in the router config page hopefully under wireless setup the option of changing the channel that the wireless is operating on.
Change this from its default which may be 11 or 12 to 6 or 7.
So many things are wireless nowadays that that can interfere.

Dave.

Mine was a bit of a pain to get working at first as well. Sometimes, by plugging in the lead into the laptop, that triggers the wireless connection to connect and then it is simply a case of removing the wire and Bobs your uncle!!

Hi Dave. How you been? Still got the Scoob? Thanks for that, I'll have a try later.

Thanks Steve.

Also suggest you download netstumbler and use it to look for other wireless networks near your house... if you do pick some others up, set your wireless router to a different channel to theirs..

Hi Deep,

Changed the scooby a couple of years ago.
Went the M3 route Coupe first now on the convertable.
Heres a link to my latest one, 14 months old now:

Very nice! Wish I'd gone for one (coupe) when I changed 2 years ago. Went for a c32 AMG instead. Very comfie and fast but not a drivers car. Put your name down for the V8 M3?
