I'm sure most of you know, but 8mb "Max-dsl" products are going to be released in the coming weeks. This will allow up to 8mb down and 488kb up.

Most ISP's are introducing capped connections though, even my one (http://www.zenadsl.co.uk)

Unfortunately, aDSL speeds are dependant on how far you are from your exchange.

Poor me is a mile (a-to-b) from mine so have to make do with a max 1Mb connection

Yes, true. You may be able to get higher upload speed though which makes it worthwhile.

I live in the centre of Manchester and all I can have is poxy 1mb - surely I can't be that far from the exchange

Yep, as do all but 287 exchanges. And some earlier than that in fact.

Had 10mb on cable for aaaaaages

 

AOL in march - as a platinum user all done for free and I will be a priority customer - oh and completely unlimited as always.

"Be There" is my ISP, 500m from exchange I am..

 

To be honest, who actually is going to get the 'full' 8mb? Unless you live next door to the exchange it's not going to happen!

I live 6k's from mine, and the max is 512k for me. Thankfully I should have a 3mb wireless connection to cheer me up soon

I live about 2km from mine and the estimate (based on Attention and Signal noise) is that I'll get 8mb, which in reality probably means 5 or 6 but that's still pretty good.
