Default Modem problems

Guys

I need help regarding a modem problem. I am with BT Broadband using a 1.1 connection. The problem I'm having is that it keeps dropping connection. I've changed modems, cables and filters and still with no joy.

However, earlier on, I was messing about and noticed that whilst my modem is trying to get a connection, when I pick up the phone and listen, i hear transmission noises. When I disconnect the modem cable from the filter with the phone to my ear, the transmission noises stopped. I know that sounds kinda obvious but am I missing something here?

Is the transmission noises causing the drop in connection? (Noisy Line?)
Is it a bad modem cable?
Or is it my modem?
Or is it none of the above?
Or is it something else I missed out?

Please help!

Thanks

I've only got the one phone socket and thats the master socket. I've got a dsl filter connected to that. I've also changed about 4 of them.

It just struck me that it's strange cause when the modem cable isn't connected to the master socket (via the filter) the line connection is very clear. But as soon as you connect the modem cable (via the filter) you hear a sort of interference/transmission noise.

Surely you'd think that it's the interference/transmission noise that's causing the drop in connection?
