I run XP, but whenever I plug into a USB port, I don't get a box up asking me what I want to do. I have to access the device thro' "My Computor" etc. I believe that this is Windows 2000 style.
Someone else set the PC up for me 3 years ago and I suspect that it was set to run in 2000 fashion. What can I do to put it right (don't get too complicated!!). Also, whenever I load a CD, it will never auto-run. Is this part of the same problem?

Try the following to check the AutoPlay settings:
Plug in the device, open My Computer and locate the device.
Right click the device and select Properties
Select the AutoPlay tab
Ensure the 'Prompt me each time to choose an action' is selected
Click OK
Try doing the same for your CD drive, may solve the problem.
Hope this helps
