Convert mobile MP4 to a PC file

Hi. My lads took a load of MP4 vids with his phone expecting them to load to his PC and be able to edit on the normal way. But we can not seem to read MP4 vids. Does anyone know of a free convertor?

Cant Quicktime read them?

Yep, Quicktime can read most of my phone vids - thoough they may have been in '3gp' format
