Default Cannot connect to the internet (broadband)

On ntl with cable modem, Problem started on tuesday. For some reason I cannot connct to the net. Tried the helpline, they run all the tests (takes about 30 mins) and have told me ther is fault in my area. If there was a fault why couldn't they just tell me that to begin with!? They keep saying it will be fixed in a few hours or by tomorrow but never is. One girl told me its my computer, then the next guy told me its a fault at their end. My coonection is saying - limited or no connectivity. Anyone suffered this problem or has anyone got any advice? This is driving me mad?

Thanks

Thanks
need to check to see if you have an ip address

press start
then select run
in the box enter cmd and press ok
you will see a black box with white writing
enter ipconfig after the >
you should see a line that says IP address ..... and then 4 fours split by full stops
check there is one there and not 0.0.0.0
