Default 8 Meg Broadband

Currently on 2 Meg Broadband with Nildram which I am happy with but obviously if there is something quicker I will go for that, however Nildram's site list 53 exchanges that support higher than 2 meg and the Wilmslow one isnt amongst them.

Anybody know what they are actually doing to the exchange and whats the planned schedule, i.e. when are they all scheduled to be done ?

According to BT's broadband website they can only offer me up to 2mb, strange that as I am currently with Bulldog on their 8mb package

Danny,

Bulldog use their own equipment for the ADSL, the line is provided by BT though, its all to do with ofcom, pain in the butt.

Jacko,

The rollout for 8mb broadband for BT isnt going to start until April unless you were one of the lucky exchanges that were doing the trials (all in Suffolk/Cambridge area so you wont be )
I unfortunately dont know when they are getting around to do wilmslow, i would have to find out the host exchange (and its not stockport btw! more outlying than that but wont go there )
They are doing it over a 6-8 month period i think so you "may" have it if your right next to the exchange as if your more than a mile away you wont be able to get it due to distance, though you may get 4-6mb

Read the Blurb it will always say 'UP TO' Hence it will all depend on the line to the exchange(distance etc).

I think Nildram are taking advantage of Local Loop Unbundling, this means Nildram put their own kit in a BT exchange and offer you a better service. If its not in your area they havent done this for your local exchange

I'm currently on 10mb with NTL and tbh I think anything over 4mb is pretty much a waste of time imo unless you are doing multiple downloads from different servers or have a newsfeed that will support it..

I think I'd rather they gave me some more upload bandwidth for hosting a multiplayer game on every now and then without stupidly low player limits.
