Default Wireless problem again !!

For some reason my laptop wont connect to the home PC through the Netgear DG 834 , The laptop has a good signal but keeps asking for the network address ?? Its been up and running for a few weeks now with no problems , then all of a sudden it wants the network address , I have turned encryption off , disabled both firewalls and the main PC connects to the web OK
anyone any ideas
thanks

I have had a variety of problems with the Netgear routers. First one just stopped working so was taken back. Present one generally reliable although signal varies enormously with no change in positions etc. The Router needs turning off for 10 mins every week to make it work.

Default channel numbers

Not sure if this affects you, but in my street there are 5 wireless routers about, a few with the same channel number causing problems, have you got a few wireless networks around you? If so change your channel number to one that isn't in use (unless of course your restricted using the channel due to 108Mbs speed). also may be worth trashing the network settings you have and starting from scratch. do you use a netgear adapter or built in one for your laptop? If netgear make sure you've disabled MS wireless setup.

hope this helps

Nope there are no other wireless routers near me , I get wireless connection , but it just says "acquiring network address" and doesn't get any further , I have "automatically assign IP address" ticked , Cant understand it as it was working fine yesterday

If you go into the router's utility page (usually http://192.168.1.1) and click on LAN IP Setup you should be able to assign fixed IPs to attached clients.

Also ensure the SSID names match on the client and on the router, and that the channels match as stated above, usually its channel 6 for the UK/Europe.
