Windows XP Service Pack 2
Posted earlier about my DVD drive not picking up a recently burnt DVD full of mp3's. I haven't sorted yet but thanks for the attempts .
In my search I find that Windows XP doesn't like .avi, .mp3 and similar file formats [why I don't know....yet.....but it might explain why I can't delete some .mp3 and .avi files off my hard drive].
To my question what is Service Pack 2 and will it do anything at all to the above question.
I have also heard that SP2 screws around abit with the systems.
Anyone help.

I've had no trouble at all with SP2 - in fact I'd recommend it.
Not sure what trouble you're having with mp3's and Avi's. Try SP2 and Media PLayer 10 (although I use Music match for mp3's)

sorry mate. SP2 is fine.
you may need some codecs installed for media player to play MP3's and avis etc. Not sure what it can do by default.
Either let media player donwload these or install a codec pack yourself available free on the net.

You maybe confused with the first reports of SP2 when it got released over a year ago. There were reports of network disruptions (Due to the firewall software which SP2 introduced and people were not prepared for) and a few other whacky things. All these are now resolved since then. I'd would seriously not run XP without it now, especially with the security loop holes it plugged.

50% through the download so let's see.
I don't have probs with all the mp3's or .avi files just some of them. They won't play and when I try to move/delete them I get error messages.
I have tried move to boot but with no sucess [though I ain't read the instructions].
Really looking to burn some files to use later on the pc but it won't read the last DVD. Need the space cos it's only 40gig.
Ho hum try and try again I think
Cheers
