Bit Torrent & 3com DSL Router
I cant get Bit Torrent to work. Ive disabled firewall on router and also enabled port forwarding/virtual servers on TCP ports 6881-6889 to my pc's IP and it still doesnt work.
Works fine via DSL modem. Have googled all morning but everyone says setup port forwarding and all should work.
Anyone got any ideas?
Cheers,
Simon.

How much more demilitarised can you get than totally disabling the routers firewall?
Jack - yes I am running windows firewall and this was working fine before when connecting using just my DSL modem and not the router.
Cheers,
Simon.

DMZ however will sometimes provide a "sort of" protection to your computer. The router may have trouble with this protocol, or fixing up the IP address from a private one to a public one when going out onto the net.
So when the torrent request is sent out. The header contains a private IP address. The other PC's cant reply to your PC as the geniune public address isnt known.
This is one theory, may not be the correct one
Im not an expert with 3com routers so wouldn't know the ins and outs. Might be worth checking the 3com forum to see wheather people are having this same problem.

My 3com works just fine with the firewall on and relevant ports forwarded to the internal address of the pc. No windows firewall though...

I checked and windows firewall is actually off. Something weird going on. I will try connecting my old DSL modem later and see if it still works.
Steve2mk what 3com router do you have? Mine is a 3CRWDR100A-72 running firmware 2.06
Cheers,
Simon.

take a look at portforward.com. Choose your router from the list and then the application eg bitcomet or bit tornado or whatever client you use. This will then show you how to set it up.
I would use a higher range of ports as well 6881-6889 isnt many. Go upto 65534 (think thats the number) that will certainly help speed things up.

All I have done is set up forwards from the public port to the local one in 'special apps'
