My son's done this with his Xbox.

He says you need a network crossover cable connecting the Xbox to your upstairs PC.

Make sure your PC is sharing the Internet connection...

My son's Xbox is chipped so he can't use Xbox Live. But he can take advantage of most of the Xbox online features (for browsing and online gamng). He reckons Xbox live should work the same

Et voila!

If Xbox 360 this is the official bit of kit

http://shop.gameplay.co.uk/webstore/..._adaptor_(live)

If old Xbox then anything like http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=110174 should work
