Windows Update Questions
Afternoon/Evening,
Downloaded the full XP SP2 exe and went to expand it to find it complaining it was corrupt. So I decide to use Microsoft/Windows Update to download SP2.
I'd like to keep a copy of this download, and any others it might have downloaded, hotfixes and the like.
So, the questions:
Where does MS Update download the files to?
Is it possible to copy this files somewhere else and run them and thus install the updates contained within, for example, I'd back the files up, reformat the machine, and then just run all the updates I have, to patch the machine, rather than having to sit around whilst MU downloads them again.
TIA

hi markus (edited response as i cant read)
was the version you downloaded this one from here
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
That version should go on all versions of xp so off the top of my head im not sure why you were getting errors on it. Service pack should be 270 meg for the full install, maybe try disabling all apps (msconfig) to see if that makes a difference
do you have a copy of windows xp on cd?
if so you can apply service pack 2 by using the nlite package, copy the files off the windows cd onto the hard drive, run the slipstream package and re burn the cd
Then your xp cd will have service pack 2 built into it.
Want all the patches on one file???????
then go to www.autopatcher.com to get all updates and hotfixes in one file including flash, media player 10, msn 7.5 and the works.
So with that setup xp will already have service pack on it 2, once you install that, install autopatcher to bring it bang up to date
homepage for nlite is www.nliteos.com and you can also create auto installs of xp that wont prompt you for information (keys etc) during install
