Default COD2 - which version?

Hi folks,

Was thinking of getting Call of Duty 2, but can't decide which version to get. Which is better do you think, the PC version or the xbox 360 version?

Thanks,
Iain

If you are used to using a mouse on those sort of games then PC Version.

If you don't mind using a joypad then 360.

PC.

I've played the old one and MOH on PC and Xbox, and the Xbox doesn't come close for playing it compared to a PC with mouse and keyboard.

Iain, the PC Cod2 community is up in arms about the lack of modding support and lack of anti-cheat software.

Have a read here first:

I'm a PC gamer and Cod2 is a fantastic game though.

... if a bit short.

Hmmm, sounds like the pc version has more than it's fair share of problems then. Perhaps I'll get the 360 version instead.

I was looking for a new "high demand" game that would show off my new pc rig though. Anyone got any sugggestions?

I was never any good at FPS's on the XBox/PS2. I just couldnt/wouldnt get to grips with a game pad when a mouse does everything so much better and faster (does the 360 have mouse/keyboard support yet?). I think you lose a lot of realism and accuracy with a pad, hence why many FPS's on consoles have some sort of auto aiming or aiming help. Get the PC one seeing as you have a decent rig unless the 360 can be mousified

I also think the 360 game can look better than the PC one unless you have the latest uber PC and GFX card with everything maxed.

I have. The new rig has two 512mb nvidia 7800 cards (running in sli), and the chip is an athalon x64 4800+ dual core jobby, so I think it has enough grunt to get the job done

Mind you, I've got the 360 running on a 42" hi-def plasma, so that looks pretty good as well

Decisions, decisions.....

Only play multi player, single player is reserved for when internet connection is ever down.

I bought COD2 on PC, played it once - looks nice, quite linear though play wise, much like the MOH series. Runs well on my set-up with details on max (@1280x1024).

How long is a piece of string? Your rig meets the minimum system requirements, but it's how much eye candy AA, AF and what res you run it at that will make or break your PC.

LOL

It is very resource intensive - AFIAK, unless you have a previous gen (X8xx series or 68xx series GFX card) or newer, you may as well buy the Xbox version if you want it to look good..

Iain - I had noted the 'dual' in previous posts

Go my eye on the FX60 in Jan And dual G80s with a larger screen too

You're missing the point though mate - multiplayer is where its at

(albeit slightly crap due to afforementioned anti-cheat stuff - roll on a PB patch)

I made the big mistake of dl'ing Day of Defeat Source yesterday just to see how it compared to BF2. Total pants, plays more like Quake (and I like Quake but not in a tactical shooter) so I wont be buying any other FPS online combat games until I'm certain they are the dogs. As much as BF2 has it's 'quirks' it's head and sholders above anything else atm. Does COD offer a ranking system, weapon upgrades, vehicles/planes/helis to use or squad based team play with VOIP? If not you can keep it.

I've read the forums and it doesnt look good for the COD lads. No reason why it never had PB or similar at release. This alone is the kiss of death for an online game.

Pick your servers wisely, some are better at avoiding cheats than others. The one I play on is generally ok, only had a couple of probs while I've been on it and they've always been well late at night.......

True, true, but I'll wait until they iron out the bugs and release a multiplayer demo
