smitfraud Virus
Can anyone tell me how to get rid of this little b*astard?! It's on my dads computer and he can't get on the internet now. In fact, he can't even use the rescue disc that he got with it because it won't let him. I'm going over in a bit to have a look but any advice before I get there would be good!!
Cheers

Red,
Do a search on google for : smitfraud virus removal
Brings up a number of things that you could do to remove it
Also make sure you check out the groups link on the google search to get some more answers / suggestions.

I had that last week and it is a bitch to get rid of
The web based removal tools do not remove it. you need to manually clean the registery of lots of entries.
search for
spyaxe
mscornet.exe
mssearchnet.exe
nvctrl.exe
svchost.dll
you will also need to delete these files from windows\system32
you will also need to get your windows install cd and run the compatability check on your system, you will probably be told that your windows logon file has been changed.
boot the system from the windows cd and run the repair system option.
it is a nasty ******* virus and takes lots of effort to get rid of.
