Default Wireless set up help needed.

Need a bit of help on how to set up a wireless network.
Got main PC downstairs and 2 laptops. One laptop is an AMILO M3438G Fujitsu seimens

The other being a freebie I acquired from a friend which is a few years old

What will I need to do/buy to get the two laptops working wirelessy. Is it worth upgrading an older laptop to be able to work wirelessly.

Cheers

Chip

You will need to purchase laptop wireless cards and a wireless router, then get pci cards for your desktops pcs and you will be able to setup your own wireless network. There are some good starter packs avaialble now where you get a wireless router and some wireless cards for your PC's.
Have a look at linksys kit and belkin, both available from PC world or online.

Good luck

Says on the spec it's got:

Intel PRO Wireless 220 LAN 802.11g

Would this be the card you refer to.
Will the 2 laptops and the main PC all run at the same time and what will be the loss of performance if any.

Cheers

Chip.

Yes this means it already has the wireless network car installed and ready to go, so you would need to get cards for the other PC's that dont have this. Make sure you get cards that are also 802.11g spec.
Loss of performance should not be too bad, after all it will only be a basic network without too much software overhead, what versions of windows are you using on the other PC's would be better if they are all running newer versions of windows i.e. xp home/pro.
