i have a pioneer dvd-109 which is great and very cheap (£35) will do dual layer, last month in PC Pro they gave a plextor drive a rave review below costs slightly more but may out do the pioneer on performance

everything except DVD-RAM so CD-R/CD-RW and DVD+R/DVD-R and DVD-RW/DVD+RW as well as dual layer formats which are about, but few and far between at the moment, think one Chris Suggested does RAM too?

Ta!

OK - that seems to be the johnny - any reason I should buy something else or not buy this?

What software should I be looking to get? Already have Nero Express, so if that does the job no worries - otherwise?

Yeah, the £8.23 shipping charge is reason enough not to buy it!

Too late i know but i would have suggested the Pioneer 110D or the NEC 4550 (if you need to burn dvd-ram)

Picked up a Pioneer 110 for £32 last week. Never had a problem with Pioneer drives.

I've got an LG Multi-drive thingy - not really test in anger yet though.

early Pioneer I had is ok - though a bit funny with Nero sometimes - a bootable DVD only burns at 1x Zzzzzz!

Had 2 NEC's - one just failed after about 4 months, the other I've just replaced as a CD shattered inside!

Weird I have 2 of them, not had a single coaster or failure in over a year.

I recently got a Lite-on SHW 1693. Dual Layer, retail with black & beige bezels, all delivered for £38. It's won and done well in loads of tests/reviews.

Thats how it goes sometimes. Neither of them ever wrote a coaster. I'm not certain that the exploding CD was the drives fault (it was quite impressive though).
