Best ISP for Unlimited Downloads?
Couple of months ago I upgraded my Tiscali broadband to 2mb and what is supposed to be unlimited downloads. Well to cut a long story short I have received a couple of warnings for high usage and now have to share my bandwidth with other "high usage" users (at peak hours). After the first warning they said I should limit my "peak hours" usage to surfing and not use any P2P software or download any files WTF!? I wouldn't mind if I totally hammered the f*cking thing 24/7, then I'd have no cause for complaints.
See the thing is I do these stupid things called "Work" and "Sleep" at off-peak times, I pay for a service and don't want to be restricted to this peak/off-peak B*llocks! So I'm on the look out for a new ISP, any experiences or suggestions welcome.

Go for,
Zen, Metronet, Freedom 2 Surf (This might be a bad idea due to being acquired by Pipex recently), Eclipse and maybe e7ven.
Zen is by far the best for heavy downloading but comes at a price of £35/mnth. But they get great reviews. Good usenet to.
Avoid!;
Plusnet, Wanadoo, AOL, TalkTalk, BT, Tiscali
NTL's 10mb is also good if you have cable nearby.

bulldog is good, however their cust svs if you need it is sh!te, they do a 2 meg svs for 24.99 a month which is uncapped and all ports are open. There is a new service called be which offers upto 24mb they are a relatively new company and will be using the adsl2 technology. www.bethere.co.uk they are currently rolling out there technology in the bt exchanges so you may not be able to get it yet.
NTL I believe that they use port throttling so if you use p2p then you may not get great download speeds.

After being with Pipex for 2 years I left as I found their customer support appalling and they were also charging me more for 512kb than Plusnet were charging for 2mb unlimited.
I am unhappy with Plusnet since moving to them due to the changes they have made so will be staying with them until ADSL2 becomes available which hopefully will be at my Exchange in February and will then make a move to BE if they deliver on what they promise.

I had a look at the Bulldog service only to discover that I can only receive their Alltime service (No cable in my area). Does anyone here use this service and is it proper unlimited downloads, with fully open ports?

I've been with Nildram for a couple years now - great service but they also have a 'fair usage' policy. However, it's unlimted downloads off-peak and 50gig cap per month peak. However, any unused bandwidth gets carried across to the next month. I've never come close to using the limits placed but I don't tend to do any p2p stuff these days - but I do use usenet all the time for music, movies, apps and games.

Another recommedation for NTL here if its in your area.
Im on their 2meg line and download a lot, line often maxed out at 230-240 Kb/sec for long periods. Been with NTL for nearly 3 years now, and never had a problem with the line going down etc, and have also found their phone support ok when i wanted to upgrade when it was released, never had any letters about usage either.
I have a friend with NTL 3meg line and his PC is never turned off and is always downloading stuff, 400-600 gig of downloads some months, he hasnt heard anything either.
Apparently NTL dont currently monitor individual usage, although im sure it wont be long before they do, especially if they plan on giving everyone a 10meg line, as they need to be able to offer different priced packages and download limit has to be one way.

that's about 4 ppl who say stay clear of pipex 
I'm on 2 meg with them and get all my phone calls too (3000 mins but I can't go over it if I try) for £30 a month a think. unlimited downloads and never had a problem (yet) it's a monthly contract with no tie in so I can jump ship when I like.

RB5 I used to think Pipex were great until I was stuck on 512kb while all their new customers were getting 1mb lines for the same money and then when I said about getting me upgraded it took until August when everyone else was getting free upgrades from March. Then once on 1mb they were more expensive than Plusnet offering 2mb who at the time had no download limits/throttling so moved. Pipex were hopeless at staffing their phones and took over an hour to get through when calling them. I had enough and thought I was making a good move to Plusnet after the comments made on here at the time. Little did any of us know what they had in mind at the time 
Even still I am paying less than what it cost me for Pipex on half the speed.

I'm with Bulldog and don't understand what all the fuss is about
8mb download, 576kbps upload, unlimited downloads, free national & local calls, caller display, voicemail all for £29.99 per month and never had cause for complaint *yet*.

I have narrowed my choices down for a new ISP to either Demon or Freedom2surf, both priced at £24.99 for 2mb. Any comments welcome.

Pipex seem pretty fair to me! paid to get upgraded early an now have 2Meg for little more than the 512K I was paying for. No limits and not a single outage (touch wood) to date.

very true as you will find they all do-even the ones who say unlimited downloads-but from working for this company i can tell you the limit is very very high
