Default DVD Ripper for Sony Handycam (US)

My Dad, in his wisdom, bought a Sony Handycam sony.dcr dvd 92 ntsc in America about a month ago, this did not come with anysoftware and he has found he cannot download the discs onto his PC.
He has spoken to various helplines with no success and has asked for my help - as I am not even remotely IT wise, I now appeal for the wisdom of Scoobynet to save the day

Cheers

Daz

They aren't the best cameras to get if you want to download to a pc [sorry!]. I think the only way to do it is to rip the Dvd disc to your hard drive then convert it to Mpeg or Avi then import that into your editing app. Any Dvd ripper will do it, but the disc needs to be finalised first.

I'd do a search on tucows.com, you may even find something free

Surely the discs arent encrypted meaning you can just copy the files of the disc. Just copy the contents of the VIDEO_TS folder and convert that to Mpeg etc. What you need is some conversion software. Check the link
