Question Least expensive ways to get online with a laptop and mobile phone?

I currently use my laptop with my Orange 3G phone which costs something like £10 per 1meg or 10 meg, I can't actually remember but wondered if there was any other method that I should consider when I'm out of reach of a Wireless network.

Also, Is there a way of reducing the amount of data per page downloaded so I just get to see a basic text page? I have Mozilla and IE installed.

I know absolutely zero about any of this so please make it simple!

Cheers

Sal

In IE you can select 'Tools', Internet Options...', 'Advanced', scroll down to 'Multimedia' heading - there are options in there for allowing (or not ) video, pictures, sounds etc...

that will decrease a lot of the download required...

I've heard good things about http://www.onspeed.com/ Uses some proprietry technology to compress web pages, you install a bit of software on the laptop and it connects to their server, requests web pages, the server fetches and compresses them, then sends them to your PC over GPRS or whatever you are using. Have to pay a subscription though.

Probably worth having a word with Orange for a flat rate GPRS package (i.e. you pay £xx for xx Mbytes a month) as well if you use it alot.

Thanks chaps. I was looking at Onspeed's site the other day and wondering about that, I think I'll give it a go, has anyone else used it?
