I'm running an 128mb ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Atlantis Saphire and it runs BF2 just fine, not sure why your cards you've tried so far havent worked?

BF2 is choosy over which cards it will run on. I found out by buying this at the supermarket without reading the small print on the back of the box which states (in small writing) which cards are needed.

They need a fully DX9 compatible card with appropraite pixel shaders (or something like that)

Was the GeForce 6600 a AGP card or a PCI Express Card?

From EA/BF2 website:

NVIDIA GeForceFX 5700/5900/5950 series
GeForce 6800/6800 GT/6800 Ultra
GeForce 5800 series (AGP)
GeForce PCX 5900 (PCIe)
GeForce 6600 (PCIe)
ATI Radeon X300 series
ATI Radeon 8500/9500/9700/9600/9800 series
ATI Radeon 9550 (RV350LX)
ATI Radeon X800 PRO/X800 XT Platinum Edition
ATI Radeon X600/X700 (PCIe).

Depends how much you're looking to spend. My 128mb DDR card cost about £110 I think. Really not sure why there is a price difference between some 256mb and 128mb cards!

I'm running an Athlon XP 2200+ @ 1800mhz, 512mb RAM, 160gb HDD, 128mb DDR ATI Radeon card

Not a massively impressive spec, the processor is years out of date but it runs BF2 and Couterstrike:Source nicely

9800pro will be a great upgrade, and you can get them for sub 100 quid if you shop around.

Note, BF2 needs a GPU compatible with pixel shader 1.4 or above - the GF4's apparently don't work

Also check out the X800 GT prices, they are around the 100 mark and a very good card (not sure if they are AGP thou).

Question

DaOne - make sure you apply the patch, 1.02 hotfix from EA (www.eagames.com -> BF2 link -> Downloads)

Does it crash to desktop? Or crash the whole system?
