Question How do I clear my C drive?

Please bare with me as I do not know the first thing about computers.

I keep on getting a message saying my C drive is full and I need to delete some files.

How do I do this?

An explination one step at a time would be gratefully received.

Ta

In your start menu go to programs/accessories/system tools/disk cleanup

This will empty any temporary files you have, then you need to got to control panel, then add/remove programs and look at the size of each program in the list and decide which are necessary and which need uninstalled.

Then its backup and delete all your ****, which can take up a hell of a lot of room.

Simply means you have run out of storage space. So delete any of your own personal data, ie music, pics, work files, etc etc that you dont need anymore.

Do this by opening windows explorer (found in the startmenu) and looking in my documents or any personal folders you've made to store your files, then find the files you dont need anymore, and press delete, simple as that

I have to ask, this is a very basic thing, if you dont know how to do this, how do u manage to use a PC at all?

DO NOT delete anything in C:\windows or C:\winnt for now

If you still do not have enough space, comeback and we'll show you how to delete temporary files and also how to defrag the harddisc.

What operating system are you using? First thing would be to check what space you have/used.

Open 'My Computer' and right click on C drive. Next click on properties and it will show you 'Free Space' and 'Used Space'

Another one would be to clear the Internet Explorer History:

Open IE and click on Tools at the top near file. Select 'Internet Option' then click on each button - Delete Cookies, Delete Files, Clear History

Once you have done this, check available space on your C drive and see how much you have cleared.

Thanks for your replies

I have managed to delete my tempory files and clear most of my deleted files too. I think I'm the next Bob Gates

Bioforger, in answer to your question, I switch the PC on, double click Wanadoo and it takes me straight through to Scoobynet. I don't wory about anything else. Apart from the odd letter I type out. HTH

Lightening, thanks for you comments regarding the ****. Trouble is I'm so thick I wouldn't know how to save it in the first place

Thanks once again guys
