I have a few computers at work that need disposing of and have been advised that I shouldnt actually have to pay someone to take them away? Can anyone shed any more light on this? Im in Oxford if anyone knows of any local companies/organisations.

If they are in servicable condition, charities will accept PIII 800 or better (most of the time).

When we get new stuff, we put the old stuff in the new boxes, and reseal them perfectly. Left on the pavement, they vanish within 5 mins.. sorted..
p.s. the electrical waste act has yet to come into law so you can just skip them

Edited to add - don't forget to get a secure wipe (i.e. not just a format or fdisk) on your hard disks before disposal
