Default corruption on an office network - switch to blame ?

We have a LAN with 20 users and a Win2k Domain Controller

We ran out of network sockets on the LAN, so in an office where we needed 3 additional sockets, we plugged a small 5 port switch into one of the existing sockets.

Can this be the source of the file corruption we're experiencing from time to time ?

Are the file corruptions just affecting the people plugged into the 5 port switch?

If not then I very much doubt that the swtch is the issue.

Unlikely TBH - TCP/IP is fairly resillient.

Did it happen before you added the new switch?

Is the corruption happening on all machines? (IE Have you tested from & too all boxes from eachother?) - or just one or two?

Have you checked the event logs on the Server / Workstations? - should highlight where problem is occuring.

Loads of things can cause file corruption, bad memory, disk, controller, wrong BIOS version / drivers & heat.

You really need to investigate more.
