Windows XP Product Keys
My Dell laptop came with windows xp home pre-installed but does have a product ID key sticker on the base of the machine.
If I want to format and re-install the OS, will a copy of windows which came with an old PC I no longer use work with my product key?

Probably a Dell OEM Product Key which will demand a Dell "reinstallation" CD and not a vanilla XP disc. Do you not have the key for the media for the old machine? If it was provided as OEM on the old machine you can't legally transfer it anyway, but we won't worry about that just yet
