Question - XP Pro vs. Home
Hi,
Planning on upgrading my sis-in-laws pc from ME (uurrggghhhh !!!) to XP. Now the Home version is cheaper than the pro obviously. And the only thing I can think of that she may need from Pro are a) better user control and b) software installation stuff.
Been googling and visited microsnots site but am still a little unclear exactly what the differences are.
So, for a), would she be able to set up users for her and kiddies (12 and 16) so that she can be 'admin' and they can be 'plebs' that can't install SW etc? Are the extra user features in Pro needed for this?
b) software installation stuff. Not sure exactly what they mean here .... I use pro on all my boxes anyway so can't compare directly.
She'll be using it to surf the web etc - modem for now but maybe broadband.
Ta in advance
Dave

you can have admin users and restricted users on xp home and you can create more users with admin or restricted rights. Pro goes further with built in security groups and the ability to make more. With this you can lock down folders with NTFS permissions. Home is also ok for installing software. Pro is meant for corporate enviroments and supports domains, remote desktop, more flexible permissions, group policy etc. To sum up she should be fine with home

Pro is just better in networked environments i.e. Buisness use. And just has more admin type tools.
Cheers,
