Bought a spindle of 50 ridata DVD-R’s today been using these disks for some while now and they have been great……. Until now.
First disk I burnt off was fine and it works perfectly. The second disk had a power calibration error and the burn failed. Now hears the weird part, it TOTALLY locks my computer up, cant shut Nero, cant shut any other program or open anything else, it wont even let me open the draw on the DVD writer to get the disk out. The only way I can get it to spit the disk back out is to alt+ctrl+del and restart. I’ve tried 3 different disks from the top middle and bottom of this spindle of DVD’s now and the same thing happens, I haven’t thrown the failed DVD’s away yet because ive got a feeling it’s the writer not the disks.
Any ideas??
I’ve got a feeling my writer’s fooked, can’t see that a dodgey disk would totally lock my computer up.

Yep, I've got exactly the same writer and had all sorts of compatibilty issues with the media. For example : burned a disc and two weeks later it was unreadable!!!! a real mystery.
Most of my problems started occuring since I upgraded the firmware to a later version.
To be honest, your best option is to ditch the writer and go for a more modern one as they seem more upto the job.

Try updating the firmware on your 106
Although Ridata only use Ritek dye in their manufacture, there are a few different 'formulas' and your 106 (being an older drive) might not like them if they are Ritek M02 instead of G04 or G05.
It's your burning software that's locking up the drive/PC. Nero is chronic for this![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
That must be a couple of years you've had out of your 106. Not bad by any standards.
If the worst comes to the worst, it can be replaced by a 109 for about £35 and the 106 will still make an excellent DVD-ROM.
