Default Networking for broadband

I want to be able to use our broadband connection on my computer upstairs as well. Will I need network cards or is there an easier way.

Thanks

Luke

You will have to use network cards in some form. The best way is to bring the BB into a modem/router (about £80 for a fairly good wired one, more for wireless), then connect the two PCs to the router. If they are less than three years old then they probably already have built-in network cards, otherwise the cards are £10 for wired and about £40 for wireless. This method means either machine can access the BB when the other is off.

The very poor way (but cheaper) is to connect one directly, then just connect the two PCs with a network card in each plus an ethernet cross-over cable. But the remote machine will only be able to connect as long as the machine connected to the BB is switched on. And if you are using ethernet access for the BB then it means two NICs in one machine, usually a recipe for trouble.
