What is the easiest way to put a black border around my photos using either of the above?

Find the size of the orignal image.

Create new canvas that is bigger than original image , fill with black.

Drag original image onto new canvas.

Job done.

Or:

Image - resize - canvas size

Tick 'relative' and choose your colour from 'canvas extension color'. Experiment with the amount of pixels you need to give you the correct size border.
