paintshop pro and DPI

i have sent an advert to a publishers to be printed in a program but they have asked me for a higher res image

there asking for 300dpi
i thought DPI was for printouts?

how can i find out what "dpi" my advert is, this has me baffled

hmm i think i have sussed it

i increased the pixels per inch

not sure how DPI can apply to a jpeg image

until its printed out?
