Mick - I setup my Dad's router on AOL silver and it works well. I did have to adjust the MTU, timeout and also Dial on demand. Also I had to create a new user account completely for it to be stable.
So log on to AOHELL - create new user eg "myuserbroadband". Create password for user. Log onto router. Enter new details. Adjust MTU to 1400, adjust timeout to 0 and also take off dial on demand. Reboot.
DNS settings will be taken from it's DHCP so that shouldn't be an issue.
Don't upgrade unless you want the speed increase. AOL are not very router friendly - it's not your package that's the issue.
More help and suggestions here...

and finally...DLInk's advice.....

(different router and service but same advice!)
Cheers
