how come when i press CAPS and 3 i get a # instead of a pound sign??

how come when i press CAPS and 3 i get a # instead of a pound sign??
as above please, obvious numptie as you may have guessed so be gentle

Go to control panel - Regional and language settings - Change all the language settings to United kingdom.....there is a setting on the advanced tab to.

never has someone been so happy to do something so simple
far from trying to promote myself to some computer wizard,but i couldn't find any advanced settings so clicked on the keyboard setting and changed that and all seems as it should be (mind you, haven't pressed any other buttons yet
)many thanks on helping the techinally afflicted
