Question Reccomendations for software to edit camera footage?

I have a DVD from some recent driving footage, but I dont know which software to use to copy from the DVD onto the computer, and then I need to be able to edit/cut and export out as .mpg, wmv or .asx .. any ideas?

If that's all you wanna do, no fancy stuff then install the latest version windows moviemaker. It comes with XP, but latest one is available on the Microsoft site (it's free).

oh forgot to mention.

I have WIn2k Pro.

Not XP.
So the latest version of premiere is a no go apparently.

I want to dump from DVD (the camera was borrowed- cheers Ads!)
then edit
then dump to mpg etc for publishing on the net..

Adobe Premier Pro is a £600 product! Probably a bit over the top for most people
