Battle of the COM ports - help

Battle of the COM ports - help
I've a Road Angel Classic (serial connection) and also an Origin b2 (serial connection AFAIR)
I uninstalled the RA software as directed when I installed the b2 and this updates OK. I've re-installed the RA for a one-off update but I keep getting the "Can't connect ro RA, please check your settings"
I think that the port has been grabbed by the b2 software but there isn't anything autoloading & running in the background that I can see in wintask - is there a way of "forcing" the port or is it the expected answer of uninstall the b2 software first?
I've tried booting up with and without the RA connected and also with and without the RA software loaded - no joy
Any help, please?
Andy

Check which/how many com ports you have loaded in device manager and make sure there are no conflicts on them. I used to have issues with com ports and certain internal modems back in the days of win2k and used to be resolved through manually changing/configuring the com ports for each device.

For future reference: remove the applications, restart and remove all of the COM ports from Device Manager and restart. You can also try removing the COM ports on their own but this isnt as certain to work. If in doubt, rip it out.
